How to use this chart

Step 1: Obtain an estimate using a repeatable method—AI photo analysis, Navy formula, calipers, or BIA scale. Mixing methods produces confusing comparisons.

Step 2: Locate your sex-appropriate category on the chart. Treat borderline values as ranges, not exact labels.

Step 3: Track direction over time with the same method under similar conditions. A shift from 24% toward 21% over three months may matter more than debating whether you are exactly “average” or “fitness.”

Category boundaries are approximate. Hydration, measurement error, and individual fat distribution can move an estimate across a line without meaningful physiological change.
